The Dynamics of Conflicts of the Kuria Tribe around North Mara Mine
Conflicts around the extractive industry in Tanzania have existed for a while and may continue if adequate measures are not taken to address issues that spearhead conflicts in this sector. The most notable conflicts in the mining sector have been reported around Mererani in Manyara Region, famous producers of Tanzanite. Other places include Bulyanhulu and Buzwagi Gold Mines in Shinyanga Region, Geita Gold Mine in the Geita District, North Mara Gold Mine in the Mara Region, and recently the Mtwara Region concerning oil and gas.
This book documents the findings on the Dynamics of Conflicts of the Kuria Tribe around North Mara Mine. It highlights the trends and practices of the local people surrounding the North Mara mine. The dynamics of conflicts existed before and after the advent of the mining investors in North Mara. Lastly, recommendations towards best approaches to attain peace and security around the North Mara mine.
